Rescued Horses

At Patch Wood Farm the horses come first. We welcome horses seeking asylum from a variety of situations from owner surrenders to horses heading to slaughter, these lives all deserve to be saved. Once rescued, they are cared for, rehabilitated, and loved. We dedicate our time to each rescue horse to ensure that they have the personal care and attention that they need before being placed in a permanent home where they continue to receive love and care. In fact, most of our resident horses are rescue horses that were once given up but are now beloved lesson horses and teachers. We privately fund all rescue efforts, with occasional assistance from our generous barn family. Yes, we are a family, and these four-legged members are our most valuable legacies.

Willow

Before
After

Willow a.k.a. Flower was adopted by Norma Ferdinando of Chester New Hampshire on August 12, 2013. Willow is a Saddlebred cross mare who was also rescued by PWF from New Holland PA. She was so thin when we got her and is now a fat and happy girl. She loves to trailride alone or with another horse. She was afraid of a lot, but now goes over and through just about anything. Ridden by little children, she behaves so well, is very calm most of the time but can outrun the best of them if I asked to. She goes English, Western and bareback, is a sweet girl and has come so far in the two years she has been in our family.

Seri and Dori

Before
After

Dori and Seri are mother and daughter miniature horses, that were rescued by the Hooves, Paws and Claws 4H group. Initially separated from each other and under great distress, the Patch Wood Farm staff went to great lengths to reunite the tightly bonded pair. Although shy and hard to catch at first, they gradually became friendly and enjoyed being groomed. After a few months at the farm, Seri gave birth to a lively little colt named Cruize. -Laura C
