Rescued Horses

At Patch Wood Farm the horses come first. We welcome horses seeking asylum from a variety of situations from owner surrenders to horses heading to slaughter, these lives all deserve to be saved. Once rescued, they are cared for, rehabilitated, and loved. We dedicate our time to each rescue horse to ensure that they have the personal care and attention that they need before being placed in a permanent home where they continue to receive love and care. In fact, most of our resident horses are rescue horses that were once given up but are now beloved lesson horses and teachers. We privately fund all rescue efforts, with occasional assistance from our generous barn family. Yes, we are a family, and these four-legged members are our most valuable legacies.

Raisinette

Raisin was adopted by Lindsay Gillan of Chester NH on February 9, 2012. PWF rescued her and 2 other minis from the New Holland auction in PA. She was so small we brought her home in the back of mom's Jeep Liberty. She has surprised us all when our little mini just kept on growing. Four years later she is a whopping 10.1 hands tall. Little ones ride her and I jump her by hand over 18 inch jumps and she flies over them. Sshe is my best friend and I love her so much!

Sal

Sal is most likely the nicest and cutest donkey you will ever meet. He is the first one to come up to the gate and greet you, he shows you what hard work does. He was only $30 at auction. That $30 made our little barn and family a little bit more excited to come to the farm. Sal doesn't care if you're new to the farm or you have been going there for years, he loves everyone. He sure does have his moments and a really long shedding season but he still is the most adorable and sweetest donkey ever.
