Rescued Horses

At Patch Wood Farm the horses come first. We welcome horses seeking asylum from a variety of situations from owner surrenders to horses heading to slaughter, these lives all deserve to be saved. Once rescued, they are cared for, rehabilitated, and loved. We dedicate our time to each rescue horse to ensure that they have the personal care and attention that they need before being placed in a permanent home where they continue to receive love and care. In fact, most of our resident horses are rescue horses that were once given up but are now beloved lesson horses and teachers. We privately fund all rescue efforts, with occasional assistance from our generous barn family. Yes, we are a family, and these four-legged members are our most valuable legacies.

Frosty

Frosty is an OTTB gelding who was thrown away to the auction after his racing career. When Patch Wood Farm rescued him from New Holland PA he was skinny and sad. Frosty settled in nicely at the farm, received plenty of TLC, and soon started to put on weight. His playful spirit returned, and we fell in love with him. Soon after, he was added to the lesson program. He is a wonderful teacher and a favorite among students. Frosty now enjoys eventing, and especially jumping! -Laura C

Lainie is a thoroughbred who we took in from Vermont. She is around 16.2 hands and we rescued her in 2014. When she first arrived you could see her ribs, and she was frail. She was in our lesson program, but is suspended from extreme activities until her injuries are completely healed. I love to brush her and spend time with her after my lesson. - Cici

Maggie

Before

Maggie is a Welsh cross pony mare who was rescued from New Holland PA. She came to us extremely skinny, with ribs and hips protruding. Maggie was shy and scared and didn't trust anyone when she first arrived. She slowly started to gain weight, and with daily handling, her manners started to improve. Soon she looked happy and healthy, and started to wait by her paddock gate, eager for attention. She turned into a gorgeous girl, who has a personality to match. -Laura C
